Az erzsébetvárosi Rózsák terén található Szent Erzsébet templomot a 19. század magyarországi építészetének kiemelkedő mestere, Steindl Imre tervezte. (Ő tervezte az Országházat is.) A soktornyú, neogótikus stílusú templom szélessége 21,6 méter, teljes hossza 62 méter, tornyainak magassága pedig eléri a 76 métert. Közel 2.600 ember befogadására képes. Az épület arculatának kialakításakor Steindl Imre a gótika francia hagyományaiból indult ki, ugyanakkor korának modern technikai megoldásait is alkalmazta. - A téren található kisebb templomot a magyar görögkatolikus egyház kapta meg.

The Church of St. Elizabeth of the House of Árpád was built in ‘Szegényház tér’ (Poorhouse square) in Erzsébetváros between 1895 and 1901. The square was renamed to ‘Square of Roses’ in 1932. The church was erected in neo-Gothic style with impressive spires – according to the plans of Imre Steindl. The main towers rise to 76 meters and the length of the building is 62 m. - The grandiose church was dedicated to St. Elizabeth of Hungary (1207–1231), who was daughter of King Andrew II and Gertrude of Merania. - After her short life she became a symbol of Christian charity. She was canonized by Pope Gregory IX in 1235. Elizabeth’s shrine became one of the main German place of pilgrimage in the 14th and early 15th century.
